In Search of Godly Wisdom:

The seven attributes of wisdom from Heaven’s perspective

This book outlines the seven attributes of godly wisdom and contrasts them with the seven abominations of God found in Proverbs six. It is designed to be used as a bible study with questions at the end of each chapter. This edition is an updated and expanded version of Mrs. White’s original book Godly Wisdom What is it? The original illustrations from 1979 were included in this edition as well.

A Woman God Can Use

God doesn’t love men more than women. Why then have women been excluded from church leadership for so long? History is replete from biblical days through the centuries with godly women who impacted society. The cameos of these women had godly character traits that set them apart.

In 1978, author Frieda C. White published A Woman Called to Preach, which has seen great success in the years since. Now, she has transformed her opus into A Woman God Can Use, a detailed exploration of the relationship between women and God. Here are just a few of the questions explored in this expanded and updated book:

  • Are women held in higher esteem in the Old Testament than in the New Testament?
  • Does the Bible teach that women are a necessary and valuable part of the ministry?
  • Is the whole body of Christ (both male and female) needed for the saints to be perfected and edified?

In addition to asking tough questions about the role of women in theology and the church, White discusses women who have been anointed by God throughout the ages—women like Joan of Arc, Harriet Tubman, and Mother Teresa. The historical and biblical evidence is clear: God wants women to provide guidance at the same level as men.

Originally this book was published as “A Woman Called to Preach” in 1978. Almost forty years later we believe it is time for an updated and expanded version. “A Woman God Can Use” has many examples from Scripture and from women through the centuries. As I began to search the Scriptures, one thought was of utmost importance in my mind. Was there “divine intervention” in the lives of the godly women found in the Bible and also among those from the annals of history?  Those women in the Scriptures were recorded for a purpose. I was taught as a child that the Bible is the inerrant word of God or free from error, so what lesson did He desire we learn from these ladies? I believe our God does nothing by accident. As I began to think about the women of the Bible, another thought kept coming to me. Why were women even included in the passages of the Old and New Testament?

Traditions of men and religious mind sets have hindered the Word of God operating through women for centuries. For instance, one of the earliest scribes Jose ben Johanan of Jerusalem around 150 BC gave this advice, “He that talks much with womankind brings evil upon himself and neglects the study of the Law and at the last will inherit Gehenna. He also forbade giving a woman a greeting and said it was disgraceful for a scholar to speak with a woman in the street.”[i]  This sort of teaching was common during the days of Jesus Christ. However, our Lord Jesus, the greatest Rabbi to ever live, openly engaged in conversation with women. His actions were in direct opposition to the teaching found in the synagogue in regard to women. We know His every word and action were in complete agreement with His Heavenly Father. Why was our Lord’s behavior so different from the learned men found in the ancient synagogue or the church today?

In this time the church needs to be clothed with understanding and wisdom from above. In every sector of our lives we see women arising with expertise, knowledge, wisdom and assuming their roles. Additionally, in every profession there are articulate, informed, educated and disciplined women. I believe it is time for the body of Christ to come into spiritual maturity and fully embrace all of the gifts resident in the body of Christ. This includes the gifting found within devout women, anointed by the Holy Spirit for His service.

I have endeavored to include every major woman God called, anointed and used for His glory in the Bible and their character is examined in detail. Some played a small part in God’s plans, others were called to prominence for years. It takes revelation knowledge to realize they didn’t appoint themselves, God anointed them for His service and divine plan.  I’ve discovered when the anointing rests on a man or woman the favor of God is found as well. The old saying “Where I guide, I will provide” is true for women called to minister for the Lord. I’ve also discovered when the anointing rests on a woman the enemy displays great hatred toward them and uses his tools of jealousy, false accusations, lies, ridicule, intimidation and even torture or death to hinder or stop them.  War was declared against women in the Garden of Eden and it has not ceased. Any serious Christian soon discovers that church history is replete with many women who suffered martyrdom for their bold faith and service.

Mark Batterson wrote, “I’m convinced the people God uses the most are often people who have experienced the most adversity.  This isn’t necessarily what I want to write, and it isn’t necessarily what you want to read, but it’s true.  Adversity can produce an increased capacity to serve God.”[ii] The women I have written about in this book paid a dear price to walk in the anointing of God and serve others. They answered His call and their obedience and faithfulness encourages me today. Each one has godly character traits we need to fulfill our life’s purpose.

In addition, there have been women throughout the pages of history who rose up in the anointing and made a difference in their society and even their nation. In every century our God has anointed men and women who were sensitive to His Spirit. Women from Scripture, and corresponding women from history, with their victories and struggles are compared. In order to fully obey the Spirit of God, each one had to overcome prejudices, traditions of men and all sorts of hindrances.  However, they were faithful to the call of God.   I believe they are all standing together in the heavenly grand stands cheering us on.  These women received the baton that was passed to them and they ran their race well.  Any woman who aspires to be used by God would do well to count the cost and then simply obey.  We are positioned to run our race well when we submit to the Lord and are willing to learn from those who have gone before us.

I have known Frieda White for many years.  The first time I heard her teach was over 36 years ago, and I can still remember the impact she had on me.  Her grasp of the Scriptures and her easy ‘down-home’ way of communicating spiritual truth affected me deeply.

After listening to her speak I picked up a copy of her book, ‘A Woman Called to Preach’ and found it every helpful in shedding light on some of the more difficult passages relating to women in ministry.

Her new, expanded version of that book, now entitled, ‘A Woman God Can use’ is outstanding. In it, Frieda takes us back to God’s original plan for men and women, how that was interrupted by sin, and redeemed through the work of Christ.

She gives numerous examples of women in the Old and New Testaments that were used mightily by God to influence others, and even shape the destiny of nations.  In addition to her insightful teaching about the women God used in Scripture, Frieda masterfully weaves in the stories of women in our time and throughout history that God used in amazing ways.

I particularly enjoyed her treatment of some of the difficult passages from the apostle Paul’s writings dealing with women.  She not only gives us relevant historical background but does a wonderful job in bringing out the nuances of the original Greek and its meaning in those passages.

I highly recommend this book to any serious student of the Scriptures – whether they are male or female.  In it, you will find answers regarding some of the questions that are often posed as roadblocks to women being used by God in leadership roles.  And behind it, you will find a heart of compassion that wants to see the church of Jesus Christ function in her highest potential.

Our ministry works in more than 150 nations and one of those is China.  According to David Aikman’s book titled “Jesus in Beijing” approximately 80% of the house church movement in China is female.  All the devil needs to do is silence 80% of God’s harvest force in China is to get them to believe that women should keep silent.  Other nations have similar statistics.

This book by Frieda White is VITAL for the global church.  It approaches this critical topic with sound biblical scholarship.  It also adds the dimension of both Scriptural and amazing modern day examples of great women of God.

I read the previous edition of this book and it was good, but Frieda, you have gone the extra mile with this update.  Thank you for this labor of love. May it help to shape the understanding of women in ministry all over the world.

Frieda has been my friend for a very long time.  In the years I have known her, her life has been an example of a Woman God Can Use.  He most certainly has used her to bring hope and healing to many lives.  As I read her book I was inspired to believe more in what God can do through the lives of called and obedient women everywhere.

I have served God as a woman on the evangelistic road for almost forty years and it has not been easy.  Many times Pastor Frieda has encouraged me with her life of surrender.  This book is a historical journal of the lives of so many women who have gone before us.  As I read chapter after chapter my faith and courage was revitalized within me to run faster, reach higher, and attain more for God’s glory!

This is a must read for all women in ministry, and for all men everywhere, to be reminded that many women throughout history have been called of God and used by His grace.  I believe many more will follow in the calling and anointing of the Lord after reading her book. Pastor Frieda, you are loved and valued.

This book is a breath of fresh air in championing the cause of godly women.  Yes, this is about women in ministry who feel God’s urging to make a difference in the church and in this world.  I have known Frieda for many years, and the integrity in her personal life, marriage, family and ministry all stand up to the scrutiny of these pages. This is not mere theology, but as a wife, mother and lead pastor this book is a reflection of her life and call being worked out in the trenches.

The question of women in ministry and in leadership is just as contentious today as it was in the days of the early apostles.  And to this issue Frieda offers a biblical perspective that honours God’s Word, biblical authority and headship.  As you read these pages you will be inspired and challenged to take a closer look at the things you thought you knew.  As with all things scriptural, we need the Holy Spirit to give us spiritual wisdom and understanding.  And this is what is so exciting about this book, it’s a journey of the revelations God gave her regarding the subject.

You will find no bitterness or hurt in these pages, but an attitude of respect and honour for all in the body of Christ.  You will not have to have your guard up, as you quickly discover God’s grace pouring out of Frieda’s heart for all who seek to have God’s destiny fulfilled in their lives

Frieda is an extraordinary woman whose life illustrates “A Woman God Can Use.” Her study of God’s Word and her intimate relationship with Him gives her the courage to pursue a life of obedience. Her dive into a world where some women have feared to walk has prepared the way for many to arise and live life to its fullest potential that God might be glorified.

If you are struggling with issues surrounding woman’s role in the economy of God, this exciting easy-to-read book will help you see clearly that God’s plan is for man and woman to function together in the work of the ministry – in the home, the community, business and in the church to fulfill His plans for His kingdom.

Both men and women will gain understanding and insight into the ways and purposes of God. We are here for such a time as this!

Comprehensive…encyclopedic…an in-depth backstage view into the every-day lives, struggles and triumphs of faithful, persistent, ‘God-called’ women.  In a ‘nut-shell’ don’t stop!   Don’t give up!  Keep pursuing!  Yes, God uses women!

Personally, this ‘read’ is so relatable, having been influenced by four generations of ‘kingdom pursuing’ women in my life.

Frieda has tackled a controversial subject, but she does it with grace.  Half of the globe is made up of women and to stop women from fulfilling their calling is to rob the world of their gifts.  Thank you Frieda for your book.

I bought Frieda’s original book, “A Woman Called to Preach” in 1980 when she ministered for Dr. Betty Price at the Crenshaw’s Women Conference.  Her book was confirmation of the anointing of God that rested on my life to minister.  As a result, I completely embraced everything God had for me to do and never looked back.

Years later, my daughter Frieda ended up in Cleveland, Texas, as God sovereignly placed my daughter under my ‘spiritual mother’ Frieda White.  Her updated version entitled “A Woman God Can User” is an absolute necessity for God’s women today, written with inspiration and real love.  I endorse this book by my friend, sister and mentor.

A Woman God Can Use” is such a needed book today and this is an exceptional and enlightening and confirming rendition of God’s truths to this age old question.  Frieda is a remarkable writer and Bible scholar and all that she teaches is clear, understandable and accurate.

If anyone wants to know whether God uses women, and if its biblical or not; this book will settle the issue clearly.  In the almost twenty years that I’ve known Pastor Frieda, I can confidently declare that she is a true example of a woman of God in integrity and in every aspect of life and ministry.

I highly recommend this practical guide to become a godly woman by Frieda.  Readers will be refreshed and inspired to stand for and apply godly values in their personal lives, with ample biblical principles and examples as guidance.  The Lord has always used ordinary women to do extraordinary things and books like these with illustrations you can associated with help God’s promises come to life for ordinary women across the world.  I really enjoyed it!

This book by Frieda is full of information from her research, inspiration and search of the Scriptures throughout the Bible.  It illuminates the importance of women in the ministry, reveals the effectiveness of their ministry and portrays women to be actively involved in the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

It elevates women from a subservient role in the church to a visionary leader.  This book takes women off the back seat and puts her on the front seat; moves her from behind the scenes to the frontlines of the work of the Lord.  You will be edified, enlightened and encouraged by this book.

I’ve known Frieda White for about 40 years and she has always been a faithful servant of the Lord.  Her life speaks volumes concerning her desire to serve the Lord and people.  Through her godly influence, many have experienced remarkable change.  Frieda writes, teaches, preaches and leads, and at the same time always imparts the love and nurture of our Heavenly Father.  My own family has been blessed by her sincere heart to walk out her calling to “teach.”

When Frieda began to minister in the 1970’s, it was very unpopular to be in any place of ministry in the church.  At that time, she wrote “Woman Called to Preach,” to answer the many prejudicial arguments raised concerning the place of women in ministry.  This book “A Woman God Can Use” contains vital information and much more. As you walk with Frieda through her countless hours of research, Biblical and historical, you will be refreshed with her first-hand experiences and the documentation of women God has used through the ages.

Galatians 3:28 ‘There is no longer Jews or Gentiles, slave or free, male and female For you are all one in Christ Jesus.’ This Scripture really brings home the truth that ‘in Christ’ all can be useful in the service of the Lord. Frieda’s book will confirm this concept in your mind and heart as you read the many examples she has recorded, which for Christians is the first and last source of revelation knowledge.

This is a refreshing book of so many women who fulfilled their God-called task from our Heavenly Father.  It was inspiring to me.  I pray this wonderful message of hope and trust encourages all women who read it.  May this book help many to make the choice to abandon all excuses the enemy so often lays in our paths to prevent us from running our race, and running it to the finish line, till our final whistle blows.  Well done, Frieda, we thank you for this story of His love for and through women from ancient times till now. What an insight Father gave you and how graciously you share it with us!
