A couple of years ago I was driving and a car passed and honked loudly. My little five-year old granddaughter Jessica, said, “Don’t you honk at my Nana, she is an old lady.” Children call things like they are! I began to think about that description of me. What kind of an old lady am I, and will continue to be, if the Lord tarries?
First, I have determined to be mentally strong. It is my choice to be free from small thinking, hatred, and mean spirited people. Those hateful birds will not build a nest in my hair.
Second, I am willing to embrace change. It is vital we are teachable and willing to listen to those in authority. We don’t have to be critical of the younger generation!
Third, I refuse to waste my energy on things I have no control over. Paul said in Acts 26:2 “I think myself happy” and I have made a conscious decision to forget those things in my past that were disappointing, ugly, done in anger, abuse or whatever. I choose to accept life and move on.
Fourth, I choose to be content in my own skin. The world’s dictates and its culture tell us to look, be and act a certain way. Micah 6:8 gives us the wisdom we need, “Do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our God.” The Lord is looking at my heart and yours.
Fifth, My outward beauty is passing but God! All the miracle creams in the world can not rid us of bitterness. We make the choice in the midst of loss, tragedy and hard times to get better not bitter.
Sixth, God’s design for me and His plans are perfect. He created us with a purpose. Ask Him today what you are supposed to do! What kind of old man or woman are you going to be?
