This morning I was reflecting that the world I grew up in has ceased to exist. I have always laughed and said I am “vintage” due to my age and beliefs. Perhaps it is time to embrace some of the old fashioned ways.
For instance, I believe we need to honor our parents. We honor them by spending quality time with them and helping to make their life easier. I see too many grown children fail to help their parents make wise decisions. They don’t need their children “preaching” to them. They deserve, and desire, love and gratitude. Their strength is not like it was, they forget things and would love to have a peaceful time with their family. In addition, if your parents have not made wise decisions concerning their financial affairs, in love we can help them.
Second, I believe we need to pray for those in authority over us. Many homes in the past had a picture on the wall of a man and his wife praying at the table. It is my decision to pray instead of complaining. Now, more than ever, the Lord is looking for those who will pray His will in every situation. Over thirty years ago I met a delightful lady, Germaine Copeland, and her books “Prayers that Avail Much” have been a powerful influence in my life. I learned to pray for others. My job is not to judge or be critical but to pray. Our God is big enough to take care of the things we believe are not correct. If you turn on the television or the internet there are plenty of opportunities to pray. I believe our God is looking for believers who will pray!
Third, I make the decision to enjoy my days. Life is too short to be grouchy or fault-finding. I love the Lord Jesus and am determined to be faithful to Him. How about you?
