Throughout my life I have believed that I am only as good as my words. My grandparents told me a long time ago, “If my word is no good, then I am no good.”  There have been times when I have been unable to do certain things I planned. However, that should be the exception and not the rule. I don’t want to make empty promises or give my word carelessly. It is a constant determination to guard our integrity by keeping our word.

That belief is so much a part of my character that one of my pet peeves is someone who doesn’t keep their word to me. I don’t have much toleracy in this area. It is very easy to speak without giving thought to the consequences. For instance, on a regular basis individuals will tell me “what they think I want to hear” and have no intention of doing a certain thing. What this does is cause me to not trust their word. Psalm fifteen gives us the instruction we need.

As Christians it is vital to weigh our words carefully and speak accordingly. In addition, we don’t need to give people a piece of our mind.  We need the mind of Christ and learn to keep our opinions to ourselves. I encourage you during this time of the year to listen more, speak less and be a man or woman of integrity. I pray over myself that I am filled with wisdom, knowledge of the Holy One and I have the understanding I need to fulfill my purpose in life. Won’t you join me?
